CLV (Closing Line Value)
Closing Line Value (CLV) measures whether you got better odds than the market's final (closing) line. It's considered one of the best predictors of long-term betting success.
Example: You bet Team A -3 at -110. The line closes at Team A -4 at -110. You got positive CLV—you essentially got a free point.
Why CLV matters: - Closing lines are the most efficient (sharpest) prices - Consistently beating closing lines suggests genuine skill - It's a leading indicator of profitability
Track your CLV to validate whether your handicapping is actually finding edge.
